The methods of dealing with phosphor bronze rust mainly include mechanical rust removal, chemical rust removal, electrochemical rust removal and other special methods.

Mechanical rust removal method: Use a steel brush or metal scraper to remove shallow rust spots, or use different thicknesses of sandpaper or emery cloth with water to gradually remove rust. This method is suitable for removing surface rust, but it needs to be handled carefully to avoid scratching the metal surface.

Pickling: Soak the metal in a diluted acid solution, such as acetic acid, lemon juice, etc., so that the acid reacts with rust, and then rinse with water.

The bleaching powder method: add the right amount of bleaching powder to make a paste and apply it on the rust spot, let it stand for a while, then clean it with a brush, and finally rinse it with clean water.

Cathodic protection law: place the corroded metal in an electrolytic tank, connect with the cathode, and apply current through a DC power supply to quickly convert the rust on the metal into a non-corrosive substance.

Electrolytic reduction: The metal is soaked in an electrolyte containing chemicals, and then an electric current is applied to remove rust from the metal through an electrolytic reaction.

Use commercial rust remover: There are many special rust removers on the market, just use them according to the product instructions.

Sand blasting: Use high-pressure gas or water to spray abrasives on the metal surface to remove rust.

For the specific material of phosphor bronze, you can also consider using acetic acid solution, citric acid solution or detergent for rust removal. For example, soak the copper in 70% acetic acid aqueous solution and use a soft nylon brush to remove rust; or soak the copper in 5% citric acid distilled water solution to slowly dissolve copper oxide; or use detergent to soak the copper and use its decontamination ability to remove copper rust.
